Harry Brown

Heya movie fans.

While there seems to be no end to the great list of forthcoming movies coming our way, there is one flick that I have to say really appeals to me, and that is Harry Brown.

You may be asking what the heck is Harry Brown. Indeed I hadn’t even heard about it until fairly recently. Basically it fits into the whole vigilante/revenge genre, which has been so popular lately. First we had Taken with Liam Neeson, which was actually pretty awesome (I actually hired it twice, which I seem to seldom do these days) and more recently Mel Gibson movie called Edge of Darkness…which was moderate to south westerly.

But now it is time for the legendary Michael Caine to take up the role of vengeful 70 (odd) year old pensioner Harry Brown, who has simply had enough and exacts his revenge in a most bloody fashion!

Basically Harry Brown is good dude. He is a retired ex-marine who fulfils his day by sitting by his dying wife’s bedside and playing the odd game of chess with his old buddy Leonard in the local pub.
Unfortunately things are not all peachy. They live on a dilapidated old council estate that is run by a bunch of drug dealing ruffian scum bags who make life hell for the residents and randomly beat whoever they want…without reprisals from the community or the police.
Harry’s buddy Leonard decides he will try and do something about it and starts carrying a bayonet around with him, unfortunately a few days later he winds up dead…and let me tell you Harry is not happy. From this point on Harry Brown is a man of the mission and all the deadly training from his former days in the army emerge as he seeks to exact his revenge on the gang.

Greetings movie lovers.

It’s raining and cold in the Mother City meaning that it’s a good idea to snuggle up and watch a good movie, or if you have the money, cruise to your local cinema and catch one of the latest flicks.
With Iron Man 2 still kicking some serious bum at the box office it is still up there as one of the top choices to go see. Although I’m sure many of you would rather watch something other than a metal man flying around knocking the hell out of bad guys (who are you people hehehe). So here are the latest movies that will hit Nu Metro this week.

First up we have the impressively animated movie called 9. This one looks to be a great bit of fun for the whole family…well Tim Burton style family fun. Indeed it does have a rather darker edge to it, but I’m sure the older kids and adults will really dig this one. I have seen a few clips online and it looks to be a really beautiful “oogle-fest”. As for the story itself it sees a small constructed humanoid called 9, who wakes up in a wasteland with nobody around. He begins his journey to find his place in a world that seems to have fallen apart….hectic!

Iron Man 2

*** SPOILER ALERT*** Just in case ;)

So finally I managed to get around to watching the new Ironman 2 movie.
I have to say I had my doubts. The first Iron Man movie was actually pretty good and I take my hat off to Robert Downey Jnr. for pulling off a wicked cool Tony Stark. However there were few dodgy pieces to the story and there was the problem of the man who was playing James Rhodes…the now infamous (with the comic fans) Terrence Howard. Luckily when things didn’t work out and Terrence was to be replaced, Don Cheadle stepped in and totally owned the role.

Yes indeed the Iron Man 2 movie was in many ways saved by Don Cheadle. I’ve seen Cheadle in various movies and always thought he was pretty talented, but after watching how he took on the role of Rhodey I have a new found respect for the man. Next up is the ever impressive Mickey Rourke who likewise made a pretty awesome villain as Whiplash. The only little issue with the Whiplash character was that it seemed like a hybrid of another character from the Iron man comics, who was like a Russian version of Iron man himself. Even with this small bit of annoyance Mickey did a great job and really pulled off a super cool Whiplash character who gave the “Man of Iron” a good run for his money.

Kick Ass Movie

Hi there all you superhero junkies.

So tell me are you all as sick of the constant bombardment of super hero movies of recent years that just have absolutely nothing going for them? While there have been a few gems like The Dark Knight and Watchmen, there are still those that make me want to vomit blood, such as Spiderman 3 and X-men 3…those were extra special bad with a side order of crapola! However there is one super hero movie that I am really looking forward to and that is the much anticipated flick Kick-Ass.

Kick-Ass is a superhero origin movie that centres around Dave Lizewski (played by Aaron Johnson) who is your typical high school kid who isn’t exactly a geek or jock. You could say that Dave is in some kind of social limbo, neither here nor there. Like his wishy-washy position in high school life so too are his accomplishments in life. Honestly he isn’t really good at anything but has a strong imagination that he applies almost completely to comics…well, of course girls as well!
